Welcome!

Maybe you’re here because you feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, depressed, alone, or disconnected from yourself. Maybe physical symptoms of anxiety are making everyday life difficult. Maybe you’re questioning your identity or sexual orientation, struggling to speak up, set boundaries, or take up space in your relationships.

Or maybe you’re struggling with something that’s difficult to put into words.

Whatever brings you here, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

I’m Shandelle Hether-Gray, a licensed mental health counselor and professional counselor practicing in New York and Maryland. I provide individualized, evidence-based therapy for adults and adolescents, with a particular focus on helping clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, bodies, relationships, and behaviors.

My goal is to create a therapy experience where you feel understood, respected, and supported, and where you can develop practical tools to create meaningful change.

Imagine your mental health in full bloom.

That’s what I hope therapy can help you move toward.

I believe everyone deserves access to therapy that feels safe, affirming, collaborative, and actually useful. Finding the right therapist and a treatment approach that works for you shouldn’t feel like an Olympic sport.

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. I’ll work collaboratively with you to understand what’s bringing you to therapy, identify the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop an approach that fits your goals and your life.

I provide therapy virtually throughout New York and Maryland.

Testimonials

“I've worked with Shandy for the past year for anxiety. She's been a godsend. I had to leave my job because of debilitating and almost daily panic attacks. She helped me learn about my anxiety and taught me ways of managing my fight/flight physical reactions and reality testing my immediate anxious thoughts. I'm in a good place now and finally able to work again. Thank you Shandy.”

A little something for your mental health…

Did you know that journaling can help you regulate emotions?

Not only does journaling help you organize your thoughts and build self-awareness, it also helps you regulate emotions. Identifying and processing our emotions using language increases activity in the part of our brain associated with logic (prefrontal cortex) and this helps decrease activity in the part of the brain involved in fear, anxiety and negative emotions (the amygdala and greater limbic system), making us feel better (1).
